Hi my name is Patti Petersen and I have been really enjoying the information I’ve learned and used for training my horse, Rocky. I adopted a 7 year old rescued horse last October and have been training him since then. He does very well with most of the training I’ve given him from your DVD’s but since he was neclected and abused he has some problems I’m not sure how to correct. He doesn’t stand still very well and he is headstrong. We have made some headway in that area but not enough for me to trust him to ride him. At first he would rip me all over but now he has much more respect in that area. It’s difficult for me to train him in natural horsemanship because the farm where I board him believes if you slap him around with the lead rope and use a harsh bit in his mouth and tie his head to one side or the other for hours that will teach him to be a better horse. They did this so much one day that the corners of his mouth were bleeding. They say this is the only way to teach him obedience. I haven’t agreed with this and have told them not to do this anymore. Of course, they don’t agree.I’ve been working on the head bends and he will do them a little but is very restless about it. I am very frustrated with what to do to help him. We have become very close and we trust each other completely. I just need to get him to be less headstrong so I can trust him to ride him. Thank you so much.

    • Annabelle Cabella says:

Rocky has learned that not all humans are safe. Even though you have bonded, he still remembers and retains this abuse he’s received from past handlers. He will never make full progress to recovery while he’s still being abused by his handlers. I would recommend finding another place for him as soon as you can. Ask them not to touch your horse at all in that way as you are not comfortable with it. Do you have any other options for boarding?
